The Star is reporting that Bill Daly met with Marcel Aubut this week about a team returning to Quebec City. Marcel owned the Nordiques until 1995. More on this when I've got a minute or 60 to think about this.
This could be just a PR move to quell Canadian hockey fans who feel like Canada is on the back burner of league officals. A plan to put a team in Quebec that is contingent on a government which has spent more money than they brought in to spend even more money during a recession seems unlikely to go through. But I guess this is all dependant on how long the recession actually lasts. If there are 10 teams that are in dire straits, than a league overhaul may not be so far off.
So would you become a Nordiques fan again? You can't just turn your back on Colorado now, they have the 2009-10 Rookie of the Year.
I'm going to write more about this later, but the gist of is about Quebec City/Provincial/Canadian politics and the how the new owner is the old owner.
And while I will certainly have a soft spot for the new team, I remain an Avalanche fan.
