Captain Blye and the Rabbi Episode 5

Welcome to episode 5. This week Ethan and I evaluate The Hockey News' List of Top Ten Things that Changed the Game, get into the subject of good/bad hits and the need to limit concussions and close with a little talk on what makes a Hall of Famer.

In Sudden Death, we both picked a player that we feel that been slighted by his lack of election into the shrine at Yonge and Front.

Enjoy.

  1. Cherry for sure goes in the Hall of Fame, whether you like him or hate him there has been no one more vocal or supportive of hockey in the past 20 years and as you guys mentioned earlier in a podcast, he is irreplaceable!

Agree that Bure should be in, Paul Henderson is a no (Sorry to Le Rabbi!)

On hits, the Richards hit was clean! You can't make a rule like in football about banning headshots because of the nature of hitting. Tackling should be done low. If you keep your feet on the ice, lead with your shoulder, not from behind and glide into the hit then it has to be clean. Otherwise the only person Chara could ever hit without getting suspended would be Hal Gill and shitty little fucks like Avery would be able to get away with even more. The rule would essentially be "you can only hit players the same size or bigger than you" or you would be encouraging more too low hits.
